Sonic cd soundtrack steam9/20/2023 ![]() Despite these layout flaws I still contest that the boss designs are superior over Sonic 2 and prove that not all of the talent in Sega’s Japanese team migrated to America.īonus levels liberally used the scale and rotate function similar to mode 7 graphics on SNES. ![]() Many of the levels in Sonic CD feature plenty of wasted real estate in the interest of moving quickly to the right, odd gimmicks that net death if you don’t tolerate the so-so platforming, and several instances where Sonic’s momentum is completely spoiled by a random ramp or springboard. This dual expansion of the campaign does have a casualty: level design. Still, it does feature some interesting gameplay mechanics, like the ability to move into the past and future with two full versions of the many levels. This is why despite coming out around the same time as Sonic 2, Sonic CD looks graphically more like the original and doesn’t seem to adapt some of the great ideas of the sequel. Meanwhile the remaining developers, including Oshima, took the concepts that were in early development for Sonic 2 and expanded upon them into what eventually became Sonic CD. After the release of the first game, Naka and several members of that team moved to the United States and joined with STI (Sega Technical Institute) to create Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Without further ado, here is the tracklist, using '3&K' to refer to the complete Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and '3DB' to refer to Sonic 3D Blast. At one point you’re forced to beat Metal Sonic in a race.įor those that aren’t up on their Sonic history, the hedgehog was co-created by Naoto Oshima and his more known partner Yuji Naka. ![]() ![]() Biome transitions also have a tendency to cut off the very beginnings of these tracks. If you feel any of the songs aren't particularly suited for where I've placed them, feel free to let me know and offer a suggestion for a replacement track from any of the games I'm already pulling songs from.įair warning: I've attempted to cut most of these for proper looping, although due to Sonic zone music mostly having some kind of 'intro' to kick off the zone that usually only plays once, looping can sometimes be a little weird. I chose these tracks in some cases based on the feel the song gave me compared to the original Terraria track, and in others the shared context between the songs- a nighttime zone would be used for a night track, a jungle zone for jungle tracks, a large humanoid robot boss for the large humanoid robot boss track. ![]() As the title states, this here is a Music Pack made using music from the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series, specifically songs from the games in the 'Classic' Sega Genesis Era: Sonic 1 and 2, songs both from 3 standalone and the complete 3 & Knuckles, and the side-game Sonic 3D Blast.Īs Sonic CD has high-quality CD music as opposed to Genesis chiptune, (and if I recall correctly even the 'Past' variations of songs, despite being chiptune, don't use the same music synthesis chip as the original Genesis games,) I used songs from that game exclusively for the Otherworld soundtrack, and the credits. ![]()
